Come learn from Jesus in Lancaster city!

Sidewalks is InterVarsity’s urban mission in Lancaster city.  It is a six week immersion experience, learning and serving in an underprivileged neighborhood.  Sidewalks transforms your understanding of God’s values and purposes in the world.  It sends you back to lead your friends in faithfully living for Jesus and loving every part of your campus.

Love God and Neighbor
Sidewalks immerses you in a poor neighborhood of Lancaster city.  By limiting yourself to Lancaster city for six weeks and (mostly) fasting from your phone and the internet, you’ll learn to fully give yourself to those around you.  Lose your heart to someone who is not just like you, and discover more of Jesus in the process.

Do Justice
Intern at a ministry or service site in the city.  Serve the poor and learn from them.  Investigate God’s heart for justice, reconciliation, and a tangible gospel through Scripture, discussions, and guest speakers.

Live in Community
Live under one roof with other InterVarsity students and staff.  Share meals, money, and endless stories.  Pray, worship, learn conflict resolution, and grow tremendously together.

Grow in Kingdom Practices
Sidewalks is a transformational experience.  Challenge your lifestyle and current understanding of Jesus and faith.  Learn new ways of connecting to God.  Investigate God’s perspective on money, possessions, and way of life.

Summer 2011 internship sites include:  Water Street Ministries, Arbor Place Teen Center, Church World Service, and Transitional Living Center.

One Response to Sidewalks: June 6-July 18, 2012

  1. Sidewalks should come visit the Parkesburg Point Youth Center (about 22 miles east of Lancaster down Rt. 30)

I heard about Sidewalks from a member of my fraternity who is going, and think more people should see the pockets of poverty that lay right outside of urban areas.

I will be working there this summer, and would love to set something up (as simple or as involved as you would like).

    Hope to hear from you!
